Amber Cures the Blues

I’m one of those poor souls that gets SAD when Autumn and Winter come. I feel like I’m walking in a fog, lost in a fog actually! I’m trapped in my head. All problems seems 10 x worse and I’m counting the weeks till Spring returns. I decided to take things into my own hands and I repertorised Delusion: Lost and < Cloudy Weather. Up pops Succinum Purum (latin for Amber). I took a dose and so far I’m back in my body. My vital energy has returned and feel relatively normal. The homeopathic proving of Amber is actually very interesting. It was conducted by the great Irish homeopath Nuala Eising. Nuala considers Amber to be one of our deep polycrest remedies. Issues of feeling displaced (like immigrants… I’ve actually just moved to a, for me, strange town in Hastings), or not belonging to your family came up. These immigrants sometimes make a fantasy about their homeland, or adopted children can make a fantasy about their natural family. Together with this there is a tremendous restlessness that makes us think of Tuberculinum. There is also a ‘veneration for the sun’ (amber was considered in ancient times to be solidified rays of the sun) which reminds us of SAD that so many suffer. And there is a feeling of being trapped which is interesting as many insects got trapped in the sticky resin that became amber over millennia. So I’m putting this out there in case Amber could be a great remedy for SAD. Please write to me if you have any good stories of using Amber in this way.  ...

WONDERFUL PLANTS!

Wonderful Plants An Introduction to Jan Scholten’s Plant Theory I would like to invite you to attend a FREE introductory webinar on Jan Scholten’s amazing Plant System leading to 3 weekly webinars that you won’t want to miss. Jan Scholten’s theory of the minerals and elements allowed both new insights into remedies in current usage and the ability to predict the profile and themes of any element or salt, even those that have never been used or contemplated before. The result of this has been to allow much greater precision in prescribing and a much greater depth of cure. Now, in his new system of Plant Theory, each family and plant species are classified using the periodic table as its basis. There are many plant remedies in the Materia Medica, but most have very small pictures or just a few keynotes. In this FREE webinar -“Wonderful Plants, -an introduction to Plant Theory” – International lecturer and experienced Homeopath Jonathan Stallick will introduce Scholten’s Plant theory and how he has found using this system is like opening an Aladdin’s cave of treasures. It allows us to treat ‘difficult’ patients where the case seemed complex and the correct remedy elusive. He will show that this system brings out the fuller personality of each plant remedy and it enables us, as with the periodic table, to predict the themes and uses of virtually any plant in existence. This is not empty ‘head stuff’! There are now many homeopaths using this way of prescribing and it is backed up by thousands of cured cases. And the great thing is you can use it...

JS GOING ON HOLIDAY

Hello there, Just a quick note to let you know I’ll be on holiday from 17th February till 7th March. A much needed winter break in Cape Town where I have some lovely homeopathic friends. If you’ve never been to South Africa please do put it on your bucket list. It’s my favourite place on the whole planet. If you love nature you will be in heaven. The famous Fynbos (or moorlands) contains more different plants per square mile than any other place on earth. And the Erica family is particularly well represented. If you have an emergency requiring homeopathy I will still be picking up my emails and should be able to respond within 24 hours. Otherwise I’m back on 7th March and you can book appointments as usual on my calendar app: http://jonathanstallick.com/online-booking/ Have a great time while I’m away and look forward to seeing you soon....

Passed Down Through Time

It occurred to me recently how often patients come with a problem that is either inherited or left over from an event that happened years ago. Sometimes it can be fairly obvious such as  presenting with recurring bronchial complaints when the parent had TB at some stage of their life. But in other cases it can be quite complex and hidden. I remember a lady some years ago who was presenting with asthma and irritable bowel syndrome. I gave the more obvious remedies but there was no change in her condition. After a few sessions where we weren’t getting very far I asked her if she had ever had a back injury. You see, the nerves from the spine serve every part of the body and if compromised can cause problems not directly associated with the back. Well, the lady in question suddenly recalled falling into a hole in the ground some years earlier and damaging her back. She didn’t have any treatment for it and the back pain resolved on its own. However after that the asthma and bowel problems started.  I gave the lady Hypericum (one of the symptoms of Hypericum is breathing aggravated by foggy weather which is what this lady experienced) and all the symptoms resolved. In other cases old vaccinations can be the cause or a stressful event. Sometimes this stressful event can be in the lives of our ancestors. One well known homeopath is having success treating the horrific wartime experiences in parents that are somehow still causing problems in their children. Too many antibiotics given for infections or inflammations is another common aetiology...

AIDS: The Homeopathic Challenge. Memories from the 90’s.

This is a short excerpt from a ‘Homeopathic Companion’ I am currently writing. At the London Lighthouse there was a residential unit where those needing respite could stay for a week or so and receive intensive care by a team of dedicated nurses. I was one of a number of complementary therapists who might be called upon to treat the residents and I remember the nurses were often amazed at the effects of homeopathy and would send me their difficult patients. One such case that sticks in my mind was an African man who was descended from one of the great African leaders. He presented, however, a most pitiful picture. His nurses told me that he was very frightened so much so that he wouldn’t talk to anyone. He had a history of TB, syphilis and many other diseases that I cannot remember now. He looked defeated and his story was remarkable. This man had been captured and sent to a concentration camp where he suffered the most brutal tortures and humiliations (he recounted how women pissed on his legs as part of this process). He was terrified and would have frightening flashbacks. Strangely I remember feeling joyful as he recounted his story because I knew homeopathy could make big difference for this man and I was glad he had come for treatment. I gave him Aconite, Stramonium and Opium in alternation knowing I would only have one chance to treat this patient as he would be gone from the unit after a week. A different man returned a week later: confident, chatty and laughing. The nurses were amazed...

Standing Up for Homeopathy!

The other evening I was at a pub in Brighton and chatting to a guy I know (who happens to work for the NHS as a researcher). He told me about all his health problems and I, slightly tongue in cheek, asked whether he had considered homeopathy as an alternative. I wasn’t prepared for the response of his friend who launched into a tirade against homeopathy. ‘Oh homeopathy, that’s all a load of rubbish, it doesn’t work, there’s no scientific evidence’. Now, I was out for drink and a nice time and wasn’t really prepared for an intense conversation about homeopathy. However, I confess I felt personally affronted by this man. We have to face the fact that homeopathy is an easy target. Sometimes when we talk about it homeopathy can sound borderline magical. However, that is before you take into account the facts that homeopathy has an abundance of scientific evidence in its favour, is used by around 400 million people around the world, is considered mainstream in India, is used by farmers (who let’s face it are not normally ‘new agers’) for their livestock, is used by thousands of doctors around the world. But a small number of ‘flat earth’ activists (some with the support of big Pharma) are committed to spreading disinformation about homeopathy. Their first line is ‘there is no scientific evidence that homeopathy works’. That, unfortunately for them, is simply not true and they think that if it is said enough times it will somehow become true. Thankfully, these activists are a small, if vocal, minority. So, back to my nice evening out and I decided to...

ASTROLOGY

I wanted you to know that I’m now offering in-depth Astrology birth chart readings in addition to homeopathy consultations. Astrology has been close to my heart since I studied homeopathy in the 1980’s. It is a natural companion to homeopathy and with it I find I can help my patients/clients navigate through life’s tricky times and transformations. And I use it myself when I’m going through stressful times and find it provides a helpful context. A good Astrology reading can help with relationships, family, work and study. It can identify your strengths and weaknesses and allow you to creatively identify new and fulfilling paths. Sometimes strikingly so! Here’s a little story that I still remember. Some 20 years ago I did a reading for  a friend (let’s call him Gary). Gary was a professional photographer and in the course of the reading I told him that he wouldn’t be satisfied just doing photography and that he would want to do something like… open his own newspaper (astrology often provides me with creative insights- it allows me to tune in). He looked at me blankly as this meant nothing to him. I then lost touch with Gary until 2 years later when I bumped into him. ‘You’ll never guess what,’ he started enthusiastically, ‘you remember that astrology reading you did for me and you said that I’d want to open up my own newspaper… well I did. It came out of the blue and was completely unexpected’ There have been other examples where a client has told me how thankful they were as the reading opened new vistas and allowed them a new...

SUMMER REMEDIES

HERE COMES THE SUN! And for those of us who suffer through the long British winter it’s been a long time coming! Some of you with fair skin will be sensitive to too much sun and of course we are bombarded with warning about the risks of over exposure to the sun. But the other side of the coin is we need the sun to replenish our Vitamin D levels as this vitamin is essential for calcium metabolism. Less well known is that lack of vitamin D affects our mood and some people have found that taking a Vitamin D supplement in Winter can dramatically improve seasonal depression. Vitamin D Is not found naturally in many foods but fatty fish oils like salmon are a good source. So, I thought I’d give you a few homeopathic remedies and tips that may be useful in Summer. You can buy first aid kits at Helios Pharmacy (www.helios.co.uk) which are absolutely essential if you’re going on holiday. PROTECTION AGAINST HOLIDAY DIARRHOEA If you are travelling to a destination where the water quality is problematic or your diet is going to change somewhat it’s worth buying a PROBIOTIC (in capsules is handy) from a pharmacy or health food shop and taking one capsule a day for 3 days before you travel and then one a day while you are on holiday. I’ve found that really helps in keeping your gut healthy. SUNBURN Aside from using a good cream with an SPF, any cream or lotion containing Aloe Vera or Calendula is a good thing to have after mild sun exposure. It will soothe any rawness...

JUST ONE DROP – A New Film About Homeopathy

This film was almost blocked from being shown by a couple of mischievous complaints received by the cinema (for those of you who don’t know, there is a vociferous ‘sceptics’ lobby which would dearly like homeopathy obliterated from the landscape). The cinema threatened to withdraw the film unless a classification certificate was obtained. The good news is a certificate was obtained and is now in place (PG) and the one-off film showing is going ahead. The film itself explores the mystery, the controversy and the promise of homeopathy. This film has been painstakingly produced over a number of years with location shoots stretching from India to Australia to the US and UK. (I’ve had a sneak peek and it’s REALLY good!) Here are the details: Venue: Dukes at Komedia, Gardner Street, Brighton,BN1 1UN Date: Monday 10th April 2017 Time: 9pm The film lasts 65 minutes and afterwards you will be invited to stay for a Q&A with the film maker, Laurel Chiten. Just One Drop takes a no-holds-barred look at the most controversial form of medicine ever invented. Homeopathy treats the entire person, not just the disease. It’s a specific form of medicine that uses minute doses of a highly diluted substance that stimulates the body to cure itself. It is these tiny doses that causes the most controversy. Researchers believe there is a release of energy in water that becomes mysteriously dynamic. Others think it’s purely psychological or worse, a form of deception or quackery. Yet millions claim homeopathy cures even though there is not yet a satisfying scientific explanation. It remains a mystery. To book tickets follow this...

Vaxxed

Vaccination is such a hot debate that I’m slightly reluctant to even go there. It creates a lot of passion, even anger, from those on both sides of the debate. But it is such an important topic that the lives of millions of children, both now and in the future, depend on the decisions we make right now. Last week I watched the documentary produced and directed by Andrew Wakefield and Del Bigtree. You will probably remember Andrew Wakefield as the doctor who was witch hunted and struck off the GMC register for alleged fraud in MMR vs autism research. Anyone who watches this film will realise that this decision by the GMC was misguided to say the least. The film is not anti-vaccine, and Andrew Wakefield is indeed a firm advocate of the single vaccines, but what it shows is corruption at the highest levels of government health organisations. A top scientist in the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention broke ranks and provided clear evidence showing how the CDC fraudulently changed the data in MMR testing in order to push their vaccination agenda. This is bad enough. But I want to go a bit further and question the effect of measles vaccinations on the rate of infant mortality. Of course this is always what the pro-vaccine lobby and sponsoring governments want us to know. And one assumes that vaccination has had a major positive effect on this very important indicator. However, have a look at the graph below*. As you can see the infant mortality rate from measles had been coming down rapidly long before the measles...

WONDERFUL PLANTS

Every homeopath knows Jan Scholten, the eminent Dutch homeopath, turned homeopathy upside down with his brilliant development of the periodic table. His theory of the minerals and elements allowed both new insights into remedies in current usage and the ability to predict the profile and themes of any element or salt, even those that have never been used or contemplated before. My experience of this has revolutionised my practice in the 20 years I have been using it. So you can imagine my excitement when Jan brought out his latest book, Wonderful Plants, a monster tome of some 900 pages (does this man ever go on holiday??), covering virtually every major plant family. Each family and plant species is classified using the periodic table as its basis. It’s like a homeopathic library system. The classification for each plant consists of 3 groups of numbers. If you’re coming to this for the first time then it can be a bit of a brain twister until you get used to it. It took me 4 years until it felt ‘in my bones’. Let’s take a well know remedy like Aconite as an example. This has the classification number 642.13.01: The first set of numbers is 642. This is like the territory in which the patient is operating or the core themes (ego, relationships, work, art, power etc). This leads us to the sub class Ranunculidae. The first 6 represents the theoretical potential of the patient and is derived from the series of the periodic table, 6 being the 6th series or Lanthanides (independent and reflective). The second number, 4 represents the desire of the patient,...
